Dragons were one of my favorite subjects to draw when I was a kid!
It’s like drawing an animal, but you have the freedom to add whatever creative twists you like to your drawing.
I believe that is what made them so fun to draw when I was young.
However, drawing dragons can be pretty difficult for beginner artists, so here is a blog post to teach you how to draw an easy dragon drawing.
I have included a step-by-step drawing tutorial along with different ways to draw dragons so I hope you may find a drawing idea that you can follow along to so that you can give drawing a dragon a try!
Drawing Tips: First, start off with a pencil sketch of your drawing. Once you are satisfied with you sketch, go over your lines with a pen (or whatever medium you’d like). After the ink dries, erase the pencil sketch underneath to reveal your finished drawing!

Now let’s get to our dragon drawings!
I hope you enjoy and above all, have fun drawing π

1. Step-by-Step Dragon
Let’s first start off with a step-by-step guide on how to draw a simple but cute dragon!
First, start off drawing your dragon’s head like shown below.
Next we are going to draw the dragon’s body.
Step 3: Draw your dragon’s tail like shown below.
Step 4: Next, draw your dragon’s wings.
Let’s draw our dragon’s legs next.
And for our final steps, draw your dragon’s eyes.
You can also add any additional features you like, such as claws, spines, mouth, etc.
Here is what our finished dragon drawing looks like!
It came out looking so cute π
2. Dragon Wings
Drawing dragon wings can be a bit difficult, so here is a little tutorial on how to draw one.
I hope this helps you draw wings for all the other dragon drawings you want to create on this list!
3. Lazy Dragon
I just want to laze around like this dragon! ahaha
I hope you enjoy this simple dragon drawing and give it a try yourself.
4. Flying Dragon
Let’s draw a dragon flying in the sky amongst the clouds!

7. Dragon and Stars
Here is a dragon flying through a starry sky to draw!
8. Snake-Like Dragon
I wanted to draw a dragon with a snake-like body, similar to a Chinese or Japanese dragon.
I drew this one based off of Haku from Spirited Away! I hope you like it π
9. Sleeping Dragon
Let’s draw a dragon taking a nap for our next drawing.
10. Dragon Sketch
Here is a pencil drawing I created of a dragon. I think it came out pretty cool!
11. Knot Dragon
Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a dragon that’s looped around into a knot.
Step 1 involves drawing the line we are going to base our drawing on. It will be erased later.
For Step 2, draw the body of the dragon based off our initial line.
For Step 3, erase the line from Step 1 and also erase the lines that are dashed.
For Step 4, draw the dragon’s head, eyes, and tail. You can also color in your dragon if you’d like!
Here is also just a black and white line drawing version of how it turned out.
12. Fire Dragon
Let’s draw a fire-type dragon next. Mine ended up looking like Charmeleon (but with wings!)
13. Sea Dragon
This is a dragon drawing I created several years back of one swimming in the sea.
14. Geometric Dragon
Here is a more geometric dragon drawing to try out.
Because all the lines are straight, this might be a great one for beginner artists to draw!
15. Half Circle Dragon
I wanted to create a dragon drawing starting off with a semi-circle.
I think it turned out looking so cute! I hope you can try it out too π

Hi Shihori-san!
I’m a primary school teacher in London (originally from Japan).
My pupils (ages 5-11) have loved copying your dragon!
The step-by-step method makes it so easy for them to copy your drawing and they’re amazed by the results.
I’ve done it with about 100 children now!
I’ll take some photos next time.
Oh my goodness! That makes me sooo happy to hear! Please email the drawings to me (shihoriobata.info@gmail.com) if you have the time – I would absolutely love to see the children’s artwork! Sending you all much love <3
I love the knot one! Because itβs so simple itβs highly customisable, and I love that. Iβd love if you did some more dragons? Iβd like to see a dragon with a forest on its back.
