What is the Meaning of Art?
My own thoughts – As an artist.
I see art as a reflection.
It is like looking into a mirror and seeing not the outside of an individual, but all their insides in a sort of otherworldly form. It is taking everything you know about this world and setting it free from its constraining definitions so that it may become something else entirely.
I see secrets of being human in it. It is the merging of the conscious and subconscious mind – And it’s difficult… sometimes… to see art as being human. It is something I at times have to remind myself of as well.
Completely human. Not just a form of media. Not a mess of colors. Not a copy. Not nothing. Human.
Because there are some who can’t even see other people as human beings, let alone art.
But…that’s the whole point of art: To help us see the human nature in everything. To test us to breach walls we can’t see in order for us to reach a sort of understanding. Art teaches us empathy, and not just in emotions of a being who is physically with us – But in the space between people. In distance. In time. In words. In images. In colors. In silence. In all the things we leave behind and all the things we have in mind.
In everything.
“I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
Vincent Van Gogh
