2017: A Year Full of Thanks

The year is winding down to an end soon, and I wanted to dedicate this blog post to everything I am thankful for that happened this year. Because A LOT happened. And right now, I may be feeling iffy and unsure about things, but sitting down and reflecting really got me thinking about how incredible this year has been. And I’m blown away.

When I graduated, I didn’t have any plans. There were times when I thought I’d have nothing, and have to live that way. I think this year, the life in me has rekindled for the first time in a long time, and it’s surreal. I mean, I’m not successful as of yet…I have a long ways to go until I reach that point in my career. But I am blessed. Very, very blessed.

So thank you. And here it goes to all the things I’m grateful for this year. Enjoy.

1. My Family

For giving me a place to live when I’m not so financially stable and supporting me so that I can live comfortably and chase my dream. One day, I’ll pay it forward: I always tell my mom that one day, I’ll become rich so that I can buy her and my dad a house and take care of them when they get old. It’s the least I can do, you know? For taking care of me all these years.

2. My Supporters

This goes to all my art buyers, blog readers, Instagram followers, my poetry lovers, etc. I still can’t believe I have people like them supporting me from around the world. Three years ago, that idea wouldn’t have ever crossed my mind, that I’d have something like that one day. And now, I do… And I am eternally grateful for that. Every day. Whenever I read a comment or a review of my book or artwork, I sometimes laugh and sometimes cry from the joy of it. I work in customer service for my day job (At a UPS store) and I come across all kinds of customers, but seriously, you guys are the kindest, sincerest, most uplifting people I could ever have come across in this entire world. You guys are really, really special to me. I wish I could meet you. And thank you in-person. And talk to you.

3. My First Art Sales

My first art sales in my Etsy Shop started coming in this year. And I know this ties in with my number 2, but I just had to add this in here because this really gave me the extra nudge…especially during that one or two months when they started coming in back-to-back. It made me realize that I’m getting there…to my dream. That I can make a living doing what I love. And I got a taste of that.

Just gotta keep working hard!

4. My Poetry Book

I published my first book this year. Even though I really need to do more promoting for it to do any good, I am thankful that it’s out there…All the words I kept in me during my college years, which was a turning point to me: They’re special words that I may never come up with ever again and I’m glad I was able to encompass them together into one tangible thing. And I’m glad to the few people who have stumbled upon it and read it, because it means so, so much to me. Especially when you have written back to me or reviewed it, it means the world to me to hear my words touching people I could never have reached otherwise.

5. My Rats

My rats, James and baby Rolo, sleeping together when Rolo was first introduced to our little rattie group.

One day, I’m going to write a blog post all about rats…Because they really are given such a bad reputation.

My rats are my best friends. They are surprisingly more like people that many of us can imagine, and they have taught me so many things. Even when we find ourselves shoved into a world that pushes us down to the lowest of the lows, there is always a way back up. Seeing my rats go through that, both as a collective group and in each individual rat, the changes and overcoming where they’ve come from makes me realize how much all of us are capable of, no matter what situations we’ve been through.

6. Having a Full-Time Job

Because it’s hard finding a full-time job to help pay the bills and living expenses. I don’t know how I’d be without a steady source of income.

7. I’m Healthy!

I haven’t gotten sick at all this year. I don’t know what’s up with my body nowadays, but I’ve only gotten sick once these past five years. I have no clue what I’m doing right…but let’s keep it up!

8. Being Able to Paint My Heart Out!

Every day is painting day!

And I guess I’ll leave it at that 😉

There’s probably a hundred more out there, but these are the big ones that are the closest at heart to me. If you’re reading this and have anything you’re thankful for this year, comment and share down below! I’d love to hear from you… In fact, it’d mean the world to hear from any reader!

Well, thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day or night wherever you may be! Thanks. xo
