Well, they reached out to me and wanted me to review Sakuraco – So here is my honest opinion about this Japanese snack box!
I hope you enjoy this little review and that it may help anyone who wondering whether they should subscribe to Sakuraco or not.

What is Sakuraco?
Sakuraco is a monthly subscription box service for premium Japanese snacks.
Each box contains up to 20 authentic Japanese snacks, sweets, and tea delivered right to your door every month.
I believe the box I received is their autumn-themed box (It is currently October as I write this blog post).
Some of the contents of this box will reflect themes from autumn so I am excited to see what’s inside!
What’s Inside?
Now, let’s open it and see what’s inside this snack box!
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was that this box smells so good!
Even the booklet and postcard they included inside smelled good!
The booklet they include is so helpful because it gives you information in English about what each snack is called, where and how it is made, potential allergen ingredients, and whether it is vegetarian friendly or not.
Now, let’s see what kind of snacks there are!
The first snack I tried were these Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets).
And wow, they were so good!! And beautiful!
The inside of these sweets consists of bean paste. Many Japanese sweets use red bean paste – It is a good way to supplement nutrients to sweets for balance. Plus it is flavorful.
The next snack I tried is Soba Boro.
These are very traditional snacks made using buckwheat.
It was my first time trying it and it was very nice! I would say it is similar to a biscuit if I had to compare it to something.
And I love flowers – so seeing the flower shape makes me so happy 🙂
There was also tea inside the Sakuraco box!
The tea they included is called Sencha tea.
Sencha tea is a type of green tea – And it was absolutely delicious!
They also included a tea cup to drink your tea in!
I love the bright yellow color of the tea cup – I find it quite unique! It shall be cherished as part of my little cup collection.
The next snack I tried was Nikki Yatsuhashi – It is another long-standing traditional snack from Japan.
It has a slight cinnamon taste and is a thin, but crunchy texture.
I really liked this next snack!
It is called a Osodefuri Soybean Okaki.
It is a rice cracker with soybeans in it – And I loved how thick the rice cracker was with the taste of the roasted soybeans incorporated in it.
I feel like you can never go wrong with a good rice cracker!
This next snack was super good too!
It is a Matcha Chocolate with azuki (red bean) paste and puffed rice inside it.
I love puffed rice in my chocolates – so this one I absolutely loved!
This next snack was so adorable, I had a hard time eating it lol
It is called a Kitsune Senbei.
It is a souvenir from the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine – and the fox is holding a key or jewel. Isn’t that pretty cool!
Eventually I did eat him!
These next snacks are called Kyoto Arare – they are essentially various rice crackers you can try!
I really liked how there was a good variety to sample on.
This may have been my favorite snack in the box – the Yuzu Dorayaki.
I personally like white bean paste more than red bean paste – so it was a nice twist that this Dorayaki was filled with a white bean paste. Plus, I LOVE Yuzu.
Yuzu is a citrus from East Asia and it is really good! I highly recommend trying it if you never have.
Also, the bread part was super soft and fluffy!
This next snack pleasantly surprised me!
These are fried ginkgo nuts!
Ginkgo nuts have a lot of health benefits so I really appreciated receiving these in the box. (The box came with two of these)
The next snack was this Matcha Cream Roll Cookie – And it was delicious!
Sometimes they included two of the same snacks – and this was one of them where it came with two in the box.
This next snack is a Sweet Potato Pie – I really enjoyed this one!
The outside pastry part is flaky just like a pie crust. The inner filling was really nice too with a sweet potato paste.
The last snack in the box was this Matcha Pudding!
I’ve never had a matcha flavored pudding before so I really enjoyed this!
My Thoughts on Sakuraco
I absolutely love Sakuraco!
I really get the impression that the contents of the box was picked with great care and intention.
I also love the little booklet they provide that gives information about each snack and explains in-depth about the tradition behind the snacks.
Japan has a lot of traditions and history and it’s fun learning about it through food!
Also, with traditional snacks, I feel like I am getting some health benefits from my snacks compared to overly sweet snacks.
Like, it feels healing to eat these snacks!
Overall, the experience of trying these snacks was exciting in a calm way: Each snack is prepared with much intention down to their ingredients and flavors that one sort of becomes more present while they eat each snack.
At least that’s how I felt!
Also – I shared each of the snacks with my mom, who was born in Japan but now lives in the U.S. She was so happy to eat each of these snacks!
Some of these snacks she hasn’t had in over 30 years so it brought back a lot of memories for her.
