I wanted to create this blog post as a resource for anyone feeling anxious so that they can find the right words to help ease their anxiety or see the world in a different way.
I grew up with Social Anxiety and for a long time I had no idea what was going on and had very little guidance on how to cope with my anxiety.
I hope that some of the things I learned along the way can help others facing their own troubles.
Since we all get anxious for different reasons and live our own unique lives, not all of these quotes may apply to your situation.
However, I hope you find at least one quote that resonates with you in some way.
For people living with anxiety, even the smallest things in the eyes of other people can feel overwhelming, stressful, or terrifying to us.
And that is okay.
Everyone feels anxious about different things based on what they’ve experienced in their life.
However, also know that there are some things in life that aren’t as scary as we deem it to be in our minds.
I have found that no matter how many times I worry over a situation, nothing truly unfolds the way I worried about it in my mind.
So at your own pace and timing, give things a chance every now and then. That is how we can overcome the anxiety over time.
I remember sometimes feeling as if everyone else was just confidently moving through life at great speeds compared to me.
However, now I accept that I will take life a little slower than others and even appreciate that part of myself.
Take things one step at a time and do what feels right to you. Don’t compare your journey with others. You’re doing great 🙂
We all get lost in life at some point. Trust that you are finding your way with everything you experience in life.
There have been so many times in my life where I put myself down for my anxiety and wanted to be “normal” like everyone else.
However, the truth is that everyone is scared of something. Everyone has anxious thoughts.
It is completely okay to feel these feelings and it’s okay to be scared.
The most spectacular and beautiful things in this world exist because nothing happens in an orderly and perfect manner.
Give yourself room to be imperfect because you are part of an imperfect universe.
We are all part of one big imperfect family 🙂
We all fight battles within ourselves that cannot be seen from outside.
Sometimes we can feel all alone in our suffering but you may be surprised at the struggles every one of us have experienced in life that isn’t known to one other.
I remember taking a class in University and the professor asked the class “Raise your hand if you consider yourself healthy, physically, mentally, and socially.” Out of a class of about 200 people, only a handful of people raised their hand.
We are all fighting our inner battles. You are not alone.
There are times when I suddenly feel anxious about things that happened 5 years ago that don’t even matter anymore.
There are also times when I think back over my day and I get hung up on how I could have said or did something differently.
Whatever mistake happened in the past, forgive yourself for it.
Worrying over the past isn’t going to change the past. All we can do is learn from it and continue to live our life as it unfolds.
It’s like that saying: Without darkness, there is no light.
We truly know and appreciate the importance of kindness, love, and empathy when we have felt the pain of its absence.
When I was younger and so anxious about talking to people, I often tried to plan out my conversations in my head. Of course, I soon realized how futile these efforts were because no one can predict what other people will say.
It’s okay to not know, whether it be a conversation, your future job, or what will happen when you run an errand.
Sometimes we become so focused on all the negative things that can happen in the future that we forget about the hundreds of beautiful things that can happen too.
When the anxious thoughts come, I find it helpful to actively tell myself reassuring thoughts like “Everything is going to be okay”.
I have probably said those words thousands of times over the course of my life and sure enough, everything has always worked out.
Actively tell yourself the words you need to hear and over time, it will change your life.
This quote really helped me understand myself and my anxiety at a deeper level so I wanted to share it in case it could help anyone else.
It is so freeing to let go of future expectations.
It is a beautiful thing that anything can happen at any given moment. Give up the need to control it and embrace the future.
Know that you are becoming more strong, caring, and wise with everything you experience.
Before I let the anxious thoughts have their way, I try to take action in whatever way feels right to me.
Make sure to start with small steps and do it at your own pace.
Also, change happens because we take action. If you want to change your current circumstances, taking action is a great way to make things happen!
Oftentimes it is easier said than done to stop thinking anxious thoughts.
However just being aware that you have anxious thoughts and that you want to overcome these thoughts one day is a huge first step.
As often as you can, do your best to actively practice letting your mind rest, whether it be through meditation, art, taking a walk, etc.
New beginnings can be scary, but eventually the scariness goes away the more you know about a situation, experience, person, etc.
And the only way to overcome the fear is to let yourself experience the new.
So do it! It only gets easier from there.
Sometimes when the anxiety and negative feelings become too much, it can be easy to want to no longer feel anything anymore.
There were many days I felt like that when I was younger, but eventually I learned that those deep feelings were important because it helped me understand sadness, pain, and fear that many others feel too.
And eventually it helped lead me to know the feelings of gratitude, happiness, and freedom.
So feel. You never know what beautiful feelings are awaiting you.
And for the times you do get hurt, remember that you are only becoming stronger.
How many hours do we spend worrying about a future we cannot control?
I sometimes have to remind myself that worrying about the future isn’t going to change it. It instead leaves me feelings horrible in the present moment.
There will be some times when this realization helps alleviate the anxiety. Other times it might not be enough.
However I hope it can be helpful for some people who just need a different way to see their anxiety.
In this present moment, just know that you are enough!
Don’t put yourself down because of the things you lack.
Yes, we all have room to grow… But we are also all worthy, beautiful, and special just as we are right now.
It’s always a good idea whenever your heart feels a little tired, heavy, or anxious to speak kind words to yourself.
There are times when life feels really difficult to face and the anxious thoughts run rampant.
These are the times when I have to remind myself that life isn’t so serious and that I should view it more like “playing.”
This mindset helps me take a step back from life and let go if it’s starting to feel too much for me.
Whenever I get anxious, it helps to remind myself that the fearful thoughts I have aren’t my reality.
In fact, most of the time, things turn out better than I expected and looking back, I wonder why I was so scared in the first place.
Trust that you are strong enough to face whatever comes your way.
You are growing, even during your anxiety.
In fact, I think people grow the most during the difficult times in their life.
Your life matters.
For anyone questioning this and you come across these words, I hope that these words reach you.
Your worth does not change because of what you can and cannot do or because of the opinions of other people.
Nothing can take away your worth.
Among this whole slew of anxiety quotes, I wanted to add some words to wish you something to brighten your day.
I believe that our feelings are an important way for us to learn about ourselves and life.
Yet so often, when it comes to feelings we don’t want to feel, we try so hard to ignore it or cover it up with something else.
Listen to your feelings. There is often a part of us that needs to be healed or a habit we’ve adopted that is continuing to hurt us.
Bring your awareness to it and face it.
I remember writing this down in my journal back when I was in school and I would always remind myself of these words when I felt myself sinking into a depressed state.
It is completely okay if the only thing you did today was breathe.
Being a human being isn’t all about going to school, getting a job, getting married, and all those things we assume a human being “should do.”
Sometimes you just have to let yourself be okay with simply breathing. Go back to being just a human being.
We all have our good days and our bad days. We all live on a spectrum of moods and capabilities.
No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.
Never compare yourself to anyone and please, don’t compare your bad day to someone else’s good day.
One of the best ways to remedy a mind that spirals into negativity is to look for the good in the things around you.
It is a great habit to adopt and over time, it definitely makes a huge difference on one’s life when you are able to see the beauty in even the smallest, most mundane things.
Our mind can be our worst critic.
Sometimes you just have to stomp down all the hurtful things your mind tells you and remind yourself that you are important, special, and loved.
Just a gentle reminder that the sadness, pain, anxiety, and fear is temporary.
I know when you’ve lived with anxiety for so long, it feels like it’s never going to end but trust that it will.
There will be better days.
Lastly, I wanted to end this blog post on the note that anything is possible for you.
When I was younger, I thought there was something wrong with me because I couldn’t feel happy like other people and that I might never come to feel the emotion.
I can say now, over the course of many years working on overcoming my anxiety, that life feels beautiful and there are many days I feel so happy and grateful to experience life.
Beautiful days are awaiting you.
You might not know how or when it will happen, but know that you are capable of more than you could possibly imagine.
